TORONTO More than 500 metres of fencing is going up along the western approaches to the Scarborough Bluffs in an attempt by the City of Toronto to prevent people from climbing their way into peril on the cliffside, a local councillor says. Coun. Gary Crawford says the fencing will be put up in two stretches inside Scarborough Heights Park, which lies southwest of the largest portion of the Bluffs and Bluffers Park. “The smaller west portion follows the top of the embankment from the community garden to the Bluff s edge, the larger east portion installed provides security, wrapping the lower half of the park along the Bluff s edge,” Crawford told constituents in an email.

TORONTO Ontario says people who have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine will have three options for their second dose starting on Friday. Under the province s new guidance released this morning, AstraZeneca recipients can have the second dose of the same vaccine or receive a dose of Pfizer or Moderna. These second dose options will be provided at the recommended 12-week interval. The Ministry of Health says AstraZeneca recipients who would like their second dose of that vaccine can book an appointment with the pharmacy or primary care provider that administered the first shot. It says AstraZeneca recipients who are opting for a Moderna or Pfizer shot can book an appointment for their second shot at a participating pharmacy where those vaccines are administered.
TORONTO Ontario s science advisory table now estimates that nearly a quarter of all new COVID-19 cases in Ontario involve the so-called delta variant that was first detected in India. Public Health Ontario has only been able to confirm 322 cases of the more infectious variant but because it has not designed a mass screening tool to easily detect cases and instead has to rely on conducting genomic sequencing on a limited number of samples, it is likely that some infections are slipping through the cracks. On Wednesday the Ontario science advisory table updated its dashboard and estimated that the Delta variant now makes up about 23 per cent of Ontario s cases.
